BMW 330 Challenge to race on Cooper RS3-R
BMW 330 Challenge to race on Cooper RS3-R tyres
BMW Race Days are excited to announce that our 2016 BMW 330 Challenge cars will be racing on Cooper Tire Europe’s brand new RS3-R tyres. This is the first time that Cooper branded products have been used as a control tyre for a UK circuit saloon racing series and we’re delighted that Cooper Tire have chosen the BMW 330 Challenge to launch this brand new product range.
The Cooper Tire brand receives considerable exposure through the company’s involvement in various top level motorsport programmes such as the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda, the Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires, the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires, and Rally Mobile Chile.
After comprehensive testing, BMW Race Days and Cooper Tire have decided to use the 225/45R17 Cooper RS3-R in Medium compound, as this has proven to give the best all round balance between dry grip, wet grip and durability on the BMW E46 330 Challenge race cars
Commenting on the new partnership, James Weekley, Commercial Planning & Operations Manager for Cooper Tire Europe’s Avon Tyres Motorsport division said, “Having witnessed the huge success that BMW Race Days have achieved with their BMW Compact Cup Championship over the last years, we were very keen to become involved in their new BMW 330 Challenge project. We believe that the 330 Challenge will be an ideal club racing series in which to launch our new Cooper RS3-R range as the BMW Race Days management team will ensure that the series will be well marketed and professionally run. They already have a great track record of building and running one the most professional and well supported club level championships in UK circuit racing and we’re confident that their BMW 330 Challenge will become a huge success too. We are very much looking forward to working with BMW Race Days and I hope this marks the start of a long and successful partnership”.
Commenting on behalf of BMW Race Days, Paul McErlean said, “When we were approached by Cooper Tire at the Autosport launch of our BMW 330 Challenge, we were delighted with their knowledge of what we had already achieved in UK circuit racing with our Compact Cup Championship, and even more pleased that they recognised and appreciated the high standards we’re trying to achieve with our BMW 330 Challenge. It’s a huge honour for us that they believe our BMW 330 Challenge can give them an ideal marketing launch pad for their Cooper RS3-R range of tyres. Both parties understand that 2016 is only the beginning for the BMW 330 Challenge, however with well over 20 cars already in build, 2017 is realistically when we’ll both benefit from maximum exposure of our new partnership”.
